The Weather in Scotland

Below are some facts about the variable conditions that can be found in this relatively small country:

  • The highest temperature recorded was 32.8șC in Dumfries - twice, in July 1901 and again in July 1908;
  • The lowest temperature was -27.2șC in January 1982 in Braemar;
  • The driest town in Scotland is Arbroath with 594mm of rain per annum;
  • The wettest place is Kinlochewe with 2210mm;
  • The most rain in a single day was at Loch Sloy, near Loch Lomond, with 238mm on 17th January 1974;
  • Tiree is the sunniest place in Scotland, but also has the highest average wind gusts at 100mph;
  • The strongest gust on record was 173mph at the summit of Cairn Gorm on 20th March 1986;
  • The strongest gust at low level was 142mph in Fraserburgh on 13th February 1989.
