Travelling Around ScotlandBy RoadBefore the 18th century, travelling around Scotland, particularly in the Highlands, was mainly by foot. While the Drove Roads provided some well travelled routes into the central parts of Scotland, these could not actually be described as roads as such. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries the road network was improved and expanded with the creation of the so-called Military and later Parliamentary Roads.
