Munros & Munro Bagging

There are 284 Munros in Scotland - mountains that are over 914m/3000ft. Where a mountain has more than one peak over 3000ft there must be a vertical drop of at least 500ft for each to be referred to as a Munro. Where there isn't this difference the other peak is referred to as a Top. There are 227 additional Tops.

The first list was compiled by Sir Hugh Munro in 1891 and has been updated several times since then (the latest being August 1997). Munro Bagging is where climbers undertake to climb all the Munros and a Munroist is someone that has completed this.
