Scottish Battles & Battle Sites

Throughout Scotland's history there have been a number of battles that have taken place - some against invaders, such as the Norse and the English; others between fellow Scots, such as the many clan battles that took place throughout the Highlands. Some of these battles took place within longer periods of fighting, such as the Wars of Independence of the late 12th to mod 13th centuries or the Jacobite Risings of the late 17th to mid 18th centuries.

While many of the battle sites are marked on the map, unfortunately many of them have been lost under housing developments, especially in the lowlands; a separate list shows the battle sites by area.
